“Read my lips…”
On another potentially controversial matter, the president also issued a “signing statement” with the bill, saying several of its provisions raised constitutional concerns and would be taken merely as suggestions.
Which proves me right: Obama doesn’t have a problem with signing statements, just statements that he doesn’t sign.
And now about those earmarks. This could be the “read my lips: no new taxes” moment of his presidency.

Again, a blog post serves as the seed for a new column: [The Obamas] proved conclusively last week that they’re either completely devoid of empathy or absolutely, positively clueless… Either [the president] and his picked team are idiots or they’re completely insensitive to the needs, fears, and anxieties of anyone outside their circle. My eyes have just rolled up into my head. Just when I start to cut President Obama some slack, a story like this comes along. You’d think our space agency’s prime directive would be to, you know, explore space. Under the Obama administration, however, it seems the mission is a bit more down-to-Earth: NASA Administrator

In a development little noticed by the American public, President Obama’s subordinates have quietly let it be known that he reserves the right to have American citizens overseas assassinated. Not imprisoned. Not spied upon without a warrant. Killed in cold blood with no oversight whatsoever. Read the rest at Hearken the Watchmen.
The big question

Glenn Greenwald has another excellent column at Salon.com on the imperial presidency. Where is the outcry from so-called conservatives over President Obama’s claim of authority to order the assassination of American citizens without oversight of any kind? That’s right. This administration has a secret hit list of “dozens” of American citizens considered a threat. Aside
McChrystal knew what he was doing

Gen Stanley McChrystal didn’t rise to his position in the Army by being an idiot. He had to know what would happen when he allowed himself and his staff to speak freely around a reporter, especially one writing for a publication like Rolling Stone. So this explanation of “poor judgment” just doesn’t wash. Anyone over

BARACK OBAMA is on a political roll, finally getting his health care reform bill and preparing to push through (equally unpopular) legislation on climate change and immigration reform. But can President Obama — or any president — really offer change?

Congress is on the verge of passing an unconstitutional health care reform bill. No surprise–the federal government hasn’t allowed that pesky piece of paper to get in its way for generations.
Obama out of touch

And even while he says he gets it, the president doesn’t realize how out of touch he is: “If there’s one thing that I regret this year is that we were so busy just getting stuff done and dealing with the immediate crises that were in front of us that I think we lost some

From the Mises Economics Blog: “My main message in today’s meeting was very simple: that America’s banks received extraordinary assistance from American taxpayers to rebuild their industry and now that they’re back on their feet, we expect an extraordinary commitment from them to help rebuild our economy,” President Obama said after the meeting.
