Buy insurance or else
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.
Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”
So under the president’s plan, you have to buy insurance or pay the penalty, and if you don’t, the IRS comes down on you. This just gets better and better.

I can understand Obama’s rationale, sort of, but just looks like a sign to come where freedom is sapped away from citizens. Really – why stop there? Why not make citizens buy additional insurance if they smoke or eat quarter pounders. Then again – we’d need a new, expanded way to monitor citizens for compliance. It’s all in the best interests of everyone if we roll over and comply.
