About

Derek 2011

Besides writing, Derek P. Gilbert hosts the Internet radio show View From the Bunker and co-hosts P.I.D. Radio with wife, Sharon K. Gilbert. He formerly hosted The Drive, the #1 rated afternoon talk radio program in mid-Missouri (the stretch along Interstate 70 between Saint Louis and Kansas City).

He’s a Christian, a husband and father, and an author. He’s in his late 40s, prefers glasses to contacts, and sings barbershop, an a cappella style of distinctly American music, most recently with the quartet A Work in Progress in Columbia, Mo.

In the 25 years since earning a degree in Economics, Derek has worked as a Top 40 radio disk jockey (he was once world famous in Peoria), a real estate salesman, the manager of a tuxedo shop, a PA announcer at high school hockey games, and a salesman of steel now in buildings, power plants, and offshore oil rigs all over the world.

Born in Chicago, just a long Derrek Lee homer from Wrigley Field, Derek’s radio career took him from Peoria and Chicago in the Midwest, to Philadelphia out east, and then south to Little Rock before finally bringing him back to the Midwest.

For more than twenty years, Derek sang the high tenor part in a series of barbershop quartets. His quartets performed regularly in the Saint Louis area, including a number of appearances on Saint Louis radio and TV.

Derek’s interests include reading, teaching Christian apologetics, rooting for the Cubs, unraveling conspiracy theories, scratching the family dog, and letting daughter Nicole beat him on the GameCube.

Derek has always been fascinated by the way things work and how things got to be the way they are. It was his study of evidence for the authenticity of the New Testament documents that awakened him to the battle raging around us.

It is this battle that inspires him.
